The tide card helps explain when water levels rise and fall, but predicted tide level does not replace wave, current, weather, or local safety information. This guide separates the general tide terms from the way sanCheck displays them.
An everyday Korean term for the repeating pattern of rising and falling tides and the day-to-day change in tidal range. For fishing or tidal-flat activities, check both the tidal cycle and the actual high/low tide times.
High tide is the highest point in a rising tide cycle; low tide is the lowest point in a falling cycle. Many Korean coasts usually see around two highs and two lows per day, but exact timing and pattern vary by place and date.
The difference in water level between a high tide and a low tide. A larger range means a larger change in water level, while a smaller range means less change. Absolute tidal range varies greatly by coast and station.
Spring tide generally refers to a period of larger tidal range, while neap tide refers to a period of smaller range. Mid is a sanCheck display label for conditions between the two. sanCheck calculates the day's predicted range from high/low tide levels and compares it with station-specific spring and neap reference ranges.
A traditional Korean label such as “8-mul” or “13-mul.” Unlike sanCheck's spring/mid/neap stage, it is based on a conventional lunar-date cycle rather than the day's predicted tidal range. The numbered label therefore does not have to peak on the same day as the station's largest or smallest actual range.
Water-number conventions can differ by region and tide-table provider. sanCheck displays the 7-tide system for the Yellow Sea and the 8-tide system for the South Sea, East Sea, and Jeju.
The same lunar date can therefore carry a different number in another tide table. For real-world planning, prioritize predicted heights and high/low tide times at the actual station.

Larger tidal ranges can be associated with stronger tidal currents, but actual direction and speed depend heavily on depth, channels, coastline, and time. Do not infer local current from a water number or spring/neap label alone.
